Is Metal Roofing noisy?

Most of us have been in a building with metal roof during a rain or hail storm and never noticed any unusual noise. that is because the noise is virtualy the same as it would be for asphalt and fiberglass shingles when istalled over a roof deck.

Metal roofing installed on purlings will create noise during rain and hail storm this is common with post frame buildings. On houses the metal roofing is installed on top of decking with a felt carrier between the metal and  the deck ( new costruction) or is installed over an eisting shingled roof often with a barrier between such as fan fold insulation. In either case as it can with the open spaces between purlins.

Is a steel roof more likely to get hit by lightning?

Absolutley not: However, in the unlikley event that it would hit, it will actually disperse the energy safely and resist sparking unlike asphalt shingles which contain flammable petroleum based material.
